Learners' Kingdom

"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn."

Benjamin Franklin

I firmly believe that "Learning" today is beyond just remembering. I've always made sure that my kids engage themselves in some fun and learning activities.

Here at Learner's Kingdom, my kids are learning to blend words by themselves using the phonics sounds.

Blending actually involves the use of phonemic awareness skills and needs to be explicitly taught as part of a research-based approach to teaching reading. This approach helps the kids to blend letters into words in order to make reading simple.

My happiness lies in their progress.

Jolly Phonics

What is Jolly Phonics?

Jolly Phonics is a synthetic phonics scheme that teaches children the alphabetic code of English. Children are taught 42 letter sounds, how to blend them to read words, and how to cope with the first few irregular keywords. At this point the children can attempt to read books for themselves.

There are five main elements to the teaching:

1. Learning the Letter Sounds

2. Learning Letter Formation

3. Blending

4. Identifying Sounds In Words

5. Tricky Words

All the children can: • read and write the 42 letter sounds, • form the letters correctly, holding their pencil in the tripod grip, • blend regular words fluently, for example, ‘leg’, ‘flag’, ‘shoot’ and ‘bringing’, and • write simple, regular words by listening for the sounds, for example, ‘bed’, ‘flat’, ‘band’, ‘ship’ and ‘spoon’.
